Performing Arts
Performing arts projects often result in spatially impressive spaces but can also include the more traditional spaces of a classroom or office building. From the fine arts complex at a college to a public performance venue, Providence has a strong resume of projects that can demand the most of a structure.
Designing for the performing arts provides a great opportunity to focus on many aspects of structural engineering design and to bring them together for a final spectacular space. With structures associated with the performing arts, a heightened awareness is needed of serviceability issues such as vibration, deflection and sound transmission, which can directly and dramatically affect the experience of the audience. In addition to these concerns are the simple geometric demands of the structure such as clear height and clear span of performance halls and the intricate detailing and coordination necessary for balconies, the proscenium opening and fly spaces.
“Anytime we run into a situation on the jobsite that requires a structural engineer’s determination, I immediately call Providence Engineering. Their responsiveness and understanding of jobsite conditions is unmatched. It is nice to know that we have a true partner to help us through any challenges we encounter.”
