Penn State Health Children's Lancaster Pediatric Center

This project involved the renovation of a one-story building that was previously a Toys “R” Us retail store. The state-of-the-art health facility boasts 46 exam rooms and over 20 medical and surgical pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including cardiology, neurology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, and urology. It also provides services by neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and mental health specialists.

The refurbished structure now serves as corporate medical offices, with alterations made to its structural design.

These changes involved constructing cold-formed steel stud framing for the side and rear walls, bypassing the preexisting perimeter roof framing, and removing the entrance vestibule structure. The front of the building was integrated into a modern curtain wall system. To ensure stability, new lateral load resisting systems were integrated into the building’s perimeter using steel X-braced frames where possible.

Additionally, a freestanding porte-cochere was added to the front of the building.
