Employee-Owner Spotlight: Nicole Bassler, P.E.

We’re kicking off a new employee-owner spotlight series, and what better time to start than during Women in Construction Week! To celebrate, we’re highlighting one of our very talented engineers, Nicole Bassler, P.E. From problem-solving on projects to fixing appliances at home, she brings a hands-on approach to everything she does.

Question 1: What inspired you to join Providence, and what has kept you here?

I began my career with Ritchie Engineering twenty years ago, so I came along for the ride when Ritchie Engineering merged with Providence. I stayed because I love the people and the variety – I love coming up with solutions to unique problems.

Question 2: What does being an employee-owner mean to you?

To me, being an employee-owner means being invested in my own future. Our efforts benefit Providence which in turn benefits each of us directly.

Question 3: If you weren’t an engineer, what profession would you be in?

If I wasn’t an engineer, I think I would have been a surgeon. I find gory medical stuff very interesting.

Question 4: What’s your hidden talent or hobby most people don’t know about?

I love repairing my appliances when they break. I find it satisfying to fix something with my own hands.

Question 5: What’s a fun fact about you that always surprises people?

I grew up on a commercial chicken farm. My weekend job in high school was packing 100,000+ eggs for shipment each day. There were also plenty of tasks that would have made great candidates for an episode on Mike Rowe’s “Dirty Jobs”.

Stay tuned each month as we continue to highlight more of our employee-owners and share their unique stories. We’re excited to showcase the people who make Providence a great place to work!
