With more than 25 years of experience in structural engineering, Jason brings extensive expertise in the design and analysis of steel, concrete, masonry, wood, light gauge steel, and aluminum framing systems. His project experience includes schools, churches, offices, residences, and institutional and industrial facilities. Jason also specializes in evaluating existing structures and conducting forensic investigations of damage caused by fire, wind, and other events.

Question 1: What inspired you to join Providence, and what has kept you here?
David was my department manager at a previous job, and when the opportunity to join Providence came up, it felt like the right time to make a change. Also, as a younger engineer, I was looking for an environment with fellow engineers with many different backgrounds, experiences, and areas of expertise to learn from. Providence had that. What has kept me here are the diverse markets that we serve, management’s support of my professional development and growth, opportunities to travel out of state for work and business development conferences, an atmosphere of teamwork and comradery, and now being an ESOP.
Question 2: What does being an employee-owner mean to you?
It means I have an even more vested interest in the success of the company than prior to being an ESOP (though I felt responsible to do my best) and am motivated to do whatever it takes to ensure my projects and co-workers are successful, profitable, and rewarding.
Question 3: If you weren’t an engineer, what profession would you be in?
Probably something music- or worship-related, since that’s been a hobby and side gig for most of my life.
Question 4: What’s the most unusual job or task you’ve ever had?
I worked in a typewriter parts packaging plant over a Christmas break during college. They were slow since much of the production staff was on break, so after three days (ten total hours of work), they told me and a few other temps that we didn’t need to come back. I ran very quickly from that place and vowed to never do assembly line work again!
Question 5: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, and not for human masters.”
Question 6: What’s your hidden talent or hobby most people don’t know about?
It’s not really hidden, but I haven’t used it in a Providence setting. I am accomplished on the piano, acoustic guitar, and French Horn. I have been a worship leader at various churches for the past 30 years, and enjoy some music writing, arranging, and transcribing in my free time (in other words, I don’t do much of it). I’ve also taught, and continue to teach, students on all three instruments, and I’ve performed in dozens of weddings and funerals.
Question 7: What’s a fun fact about you that always surprises people?
My wife’s uncle played football for Penn State, and then for the Raiders, 49ers, and Commanders, and is still the only NFL player to have at least one Super Bowl ring with three different teams.
Question 8: What’s your all-time favorite guilty pleasure snack or treat?
Cool Ranch Doritos, or most foods laced with MSG.
Question 9: What’s the first concert you ever attended?
Not a concert, but I’m pretty sure the first famous person I saw live was David Copperfield, in York around 1986. I still remember him being sawed in half (actually!) and then somehow putting himself back together.
Question 10: What’s your go-to karaoke song or pump-up anthem?
Most 80’s hair band or 90’s grunge songs.
Question 11: If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it at work?
Not sure if it’s a superpower, but I would definitely have a clone or three, to get everything done at work and outside of work that I want to.
