#Eweek2023 Spotlight | Nate Babyak

For National Engineers Week 2023, we’re sharing stories from Providence’s engineering talent to learn more about how they chose their profession.

Who (or what) inspired you to become an engineer?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in the design and construction of buildings. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater here in Pittsburgh’s backyard provided great inspiration for a young engineer who was always thinking about how things stand up.

Who is an engineer you look up to and/or admire?

My parents are both engineers that provided a great foundation for me to grow from.  They provide great advice when it comes to project and office management.

What is your area of expertise and why did you choose it?

Building structures have always been interesting to me.  It provides a great blend of architectural and engineering design.

What is one of your favorite projects and why?

We’re currently wrapping up construction on Allegheny Center Alliance Church’s Community Hub project here on the North Side in Pittsburgh. It’s a complex addition between four existing adjacent buildings so it’s provided some unique opportunities for problem solving between the owners, design, and construction teams. It’s also a great addition to our new neighborhood.
