We’re continuing our employee-owner spotlight series with someone who keeps Providence organized, connected, and ready for anything. Meet Kristen Thomas, our Office Manager and go-to for everything from events and travel to licenses, insurance, and our engineering library.
Question 1: What inspired you to join Providence, and what has kept you here?
I first heard about Providence when my dad said “I’m starting my own engineering firm” and then at some point years later Providence needed more front office support and my kids were in school and so I came on board. I love coming to work every day and the relationships I have with my co-owners!
Question 2: What does being an employee-owner mean to you?
My dad, Dan Fichtner, started this company in our basement over 30 years ago and I’ve always felt like this company changed the direction of our family’s life and now that we are an ESOP, everyone at Providence gets the opportunity to change the direction of their life by sharing in the benefits of being an employee-owner and knowing that what you do every day has a real impact on the future of Providence.
Question 3: If you weren’t in your current role, what profession would you be in?
I always thought I would be a nurse because I loved science but then I had kids and realized I am lacking in the bedside manner department.
Question 4: What’s a fun fact about you that always surprises people?
When we were younger, my dad had his pilot’s license and for my birthday one year I got flying lessons. I loved every minute of it and had a dream that I would have my pilot’s license before I had my driver’s license!
Question 5: What’s your all-time favorite guilty pleasure snack or treat?
Cheese fries with ranch dressing and bacon. Actually, almost anything not in any way spicy with ranch dressing. My sister and I planned a trip to St. Louis with the specific intent of visiting the Twisted Ranch, a restaurant built around the goodness that is ranch dressing. Every item on the menu has ranch in it.
Question 6: What’s the first concert you ever attended?
My aunt took me to see Amy Grant and I could still sing every word of most of her songs!
Stay tuned each month as we continue to highlight more of our employee-owners and share their unique stories. We’re excited to showcase the people who make Providence a great place to work!
