We’re continuing our employee-owner spotlight series with someone who knows how to build connections—both inside and outside the office. Meet Dan Confer, our Vice President of Business Development. With over a decade in the A/E/C world, Dan’s all about creating strong relationships and bringing people together. Whether he’s teaming up with clients, singing in his church choir with his kids, or grabbing the mic for karaoke, Dan brings a down-to-earth, thoughtful vibe to everything he does.
Question 1: What inspired you to join Providence, and what has kept you here?
I knew Mark Ritchie from working at Dickinson College and thought very highly of him. When I was looking for a new opportunity, I reached out to Mark, then got connected with David Bernhardt, and the rest is history!
Question 2: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
You’re never as good as you think you are, but you’re never as bad as you think you are.
Question 3: What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?
The Quakers have a saying: “proceed as the way opens”. The details of a situation aren’t always clear. Be still and be patient. Don’t try to force the outcome. Consider multiple approaches and perspectives. Be decisive when the time comes.
Question 4: What’s one movie, book, or TV show you never get tired of?
Goodfellas.
Question 5: What’s your all-time favorite guilty pleasure snack or treat?
Plain M&M’s.
Stay tuned each month as we continue to highlight more of our employee-owners and share their unique stories. We’re excited to showcase the people who make Providence a great place to work!
