We’re wrapping up our ESOPtober employee-owner spotlight series with Dan Hallowell, P.E., a project engineer at Providence Engineering!
With over 25 years of experience in HVAC and plumbing design, Dan brings a lifelong connection to the mechanical trades. Raised in a family where HVAC and plumbing were a way of life, he learned early the value of hands-on work and practical solutions.
Question 1: What inspired you to join Providence, and what has kept you here?
I had previously worked together with Dana on projects both as a consultant and as a client. I appreciated the focus on keeping projects affordable and constructible. I’m still here because of that same focus by the company; Reliable, Constructible, Affordable and Timely.
Question 2: If you weren’t an engineer, what profession would you be in?
Since visiting Snakes and Lattes in Toronto in 2013, I’ve had in the back of my head to own a boardgame café someday. I’ve seen too many come and go to take the leap.
Question 3: What’s one movie, book, or TV show you never get tired of?
I typically don’t re-read a book, but I will watch movies and TV shows many times. Star Wars (A New Hope) and My Name is Earl probably top those lists.
Question 4: What’s your hidden talent or hobby most people don’t know about?
I can juggle.
Question 5: What’s your go-to karaoke song or pump-up anthem?
I don’t sing karaoke, but Driveway to Driveway by Superchunk is what I play in the car when I need to sing along with the windows down.
Question 6: If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it at work?
Mutant speed (i.e. Quicksilver), every meeting would be in person.
Stay tuned each month as we continue to highlight more of our employee-owners and share their unique stories. We’re excited to showcase the people who make Providence a great place to work!
