Employee-Owner Spotlight: Gretchen Berkheimer

We’re continuing our employee-owner spotlights with Gretchen Berkheimer, Director of CAD Services. Gretchen manages the workload, scheduling, and quality standards essential for a smooth drawing production process. Skilled in AutoCAD and Revit, she works closely with engineers and project managers to develop typical structural details and drawing standards to maintain quality and consistency in our drawings.

Question 1: What inspired you to join Providence, and what has kept you here?

I was asked to help part-time while still working elsewhere, after a few months, Dan approached me one day and asked, “how would you feel about working here full-time?”, and I’ve been here ever since.

Question 2: What’s a project or accomplishment you’re particularly proud of?

The Smyth Diamond Ring Sculpture (obviously not a normal building); it was heavy on my favorite math, geometry and trigonometry.

Question 3: If you weren’t a drafter, what profession would you be in?

A math teacher!

Question 4: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t be afraid to fail, there’s a lot to learn from giving things a try.

Question 5: What’s one movie, book, or TV show you never get tired of?

The Shawshank Redemption.

Question 6: What’s your hidden talent or hobby most people don’t know about?

No hidden hobby, everyone knows that I love to bake.

Question 7: What’s a fun fact about you that always surprises people?

I am a twin.

Question 8: What’s your all-time favorite guilty pleasure snack or treat?

Dark chocolate and anything pumpkin.

Question 9: What’s the first concert you ever attended?

Tim McGraw, way back in the early 90s!

Question 10: What’s something on your bucket list you’re hoping to check off soon?

I don’t know about soon, but returning to Alaska.

Question 11: If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it at work?
