Providence Engineering’s Heather Sustersic represented east coast structural engineering interests at the 2017 Spring Meeting of The Masonry Society (TMS) held in Denver, Colorado, April 20-21, 2017. Heather is a new corresponding member on the Design Elements Subcommittee, the Structural Members Subcommittee, and the Main Committee of TMS, the governing body responsible for development of the masonry code and specification, TMS 402/602 (formerly ACI 530/530.1). All subcommittees are hard at work reviewing and incorporating public and internal comments from the 2013 and 2016 code publications in an effort to incorporate all changes in time for the 2022 edition of TMS 402/602. This will be the first code published under the new TMS 6 year review cycle, established to better align with the 6 year ASCE 7 review cycle. Heather is serving on several task groups identified to rework/clean up code language, address public comments, and coordinate TMS provisions with anticipated changes to ASCE 7 tornado design provisions.
