Heather Sustersic, P.E., recently visited the 1st and 4th grade classes at Benner Elementary School to introduce them to the field of structural engineering within an architectural project context. She showed them how their science vocabulary terms like, “inertia,” “mass,” and “force,” have real-world significance for practicing engineers. They also learned the value of clear communication when working in teams, how an architectural scale works, and that full penetration welds fully join two pieces of steel together.
